I might attempt to make a drawing as realistic as possible, but I won’t. In my opinion nature makes it perfect. This series is about three different animals that live in the same extreme circumstances. All three adapted to survive in a icy white wonderland. The drawings are a representation of the animals, a dedication to nature for taking the time to create them. The little stripes which replace their hairs and feathers takes time to draw. All stripes are drawn by hand and therefor unique. Parallel to this admiration is a worry. My concern for the environment has been growing a long time. With the arctics melting it stains the life of these animals. I wonder how long it will be until the polar bear, a bear with black skin and hollow hairs, no longer can survive in this world.
I’m someone who loves pencils and paper, someone who gets attached to each drawing. Silkscreen is a technique I picked up in my time at the academy, but rediscovered just a little while ago. It’s the perfect way for me to reproduce some of my work without feeling like a sellout. I make the drawing, the screen and the prints. To make sure the prints are not just a copy, I add the blue watercolor. Adding the paint by hand makes all the works unique, just like every hare, owl or bear is.
Sometimes an animal gets a hold of my mind, little details about them keep amazing me. I have taken the polar bear from this series and decided to give him a stage. Check my other project for more details.
